Last weekend, six dogs from Houston, Texas found their way to the Longmont Humane Society shelter in Longmont, Colorado.
Longmont Humane is one of several shelters in Colorado that accepts animals from Houston, a city with as many as 1.2 million strays. In Colorado these dogs have an opportunity they would never have in their home state, the chance to be adopted into a forever home.
Communities across the nation with higher than average stray dog populations are beginning to work with shelters in communities with lower shelter populations and greater adoption opportunities. These community partnerships are really paying off for pets!
